Today I will be reviewing the Thug Kitchen Pineapple Kabobs with Grilled Tempeh, found in the Thug Kitchen Party Grub Cookbook, on page 133.

At A First Glance

The Thug Kitchen Pineapple Kabobs recipe has a lot of ingredients, well more than the average in this book (just because of the sauce).  But I found that all the ingredients were easy enough to find.  Also, the marinade made plenty to feed an army.  So the cost of the ingredients was not bad.  The tempeh is the most expensive ingredient of all, which is still a lot cheaper than meat!

Mind you, I am not the biggest fan of tempeh.  I opted for tofu instead.  I found that the most time taken to prepare the kabobs was used marinating the tofu and getting it ready for the grill.  If I were you, I would get purple onions, and green pepper.  I think the colours overall were stunning!

Taste Test

I was really impressed with the taste.  It was simple yet full of flavour.  I really enjoyed using the pineapple juice to make the teriyaki sauce.  I found the sauce very similar to that used in the leek cakes, so you can also just double the recipe and use for both recipes this week if you like.  The only suggestion I would make was to pre-cook the tofu or tempeh, if you want it on the crispier side.  However, this may also be my grill that is not cooking the kabobs crispy enough.

Final Verdict

Pineapple and Tempeh KabobsThe Thug Kitchen Pineapple Kabobs got a whopping 89% which I think is the highest rating yet! A must have for barbeque season and definitely a recipe most taste buds would enjoy.  I really think I would make this again.  It would be interesting to try other vegetables and see what I like best.

Anyone else made this one? Let me know what you think!
