Review of the Thug Kitchen Almond Butter Chocolate Cookies

Today is day 12 of the Thug Kitchen 21 Day Challenge and I am going to review the Almond Butter Chocolate Cookies, found in the Thug Kitchen Original Cookbook, page 195.  I have always been a bit weary over vegan cookies, as oftentimes they do not get as big and doughy as other cookies.  Tasty yes, but they seem to spread thin into one another.  This forms one giant cookie.  Not good for self control haha.  Anyways, I was very excited to try this recipe

At First Glance

Thug Kitchen Almond Cookies

Thug Kitchen Almond CookiesThe recipe had an adequate amount of ingredients, all easy to find.  Almond butter is more of a pricier ingredient.  I don’t see why you can’t use a different type of nut butter, however.  Even sunflower butter would be nice.  I did find that it was hard to mix up in the beginning, so make sure you have a decent hand mixer.  It was almost impossible to ‘cream the butter and sugar’ at the beginning.  So be careful of that.  The other note worth mentioning, in BOLD is make sure to make this ahead of time as it needs to go in the fridge, or freezer.  I would recommend the freezer as then you can mould the dough to the perfect shape prior.  I was bummed when making these that I couldn’t enjoy them right away.  I think it has to do with the fact that they hold up better when cooked from cold.  What a pain!

Taste Test

The overall taste of these Almond Butter Chocolate Cookies was amazing.  Soft, not too dense, with lots of flavour.  You would have no idea there was not an ounce of milk or dairy in these.  I definitely think these are better straight out of the oven.  After a day or two, the taste was not as great.  I would also suggest doubling the chocolate.  Because, why not!

Final Verdict

Thug Kitchen Almond CookiesI gave this an overall rating of 86%, which I think is pretty high, based on other recipes I’ve reviewed.  I’m sorry to say this, but all the Thug Kitchen recipes have been a hit so far! I’m going to have to try a bad recipe soon, or else I will seem completely biased.  I guess they have their testing down to a science.  Make these for a friend or family this weekend, why don’t ya?
