Review of the Thug Kitchen Peach Juleps

It is Day 20 of the Thug Kitchen Challenge and today I am reviewing the Thug Kitchen Peach Juleps, found on page 192 of the Thug Kitchen Party Grub Cookbook.  Yes you heard it, day 20.  We are almost at the end of the challenge.  It has been so fun and am proud of all the recipes I have reviewed.  Thanks to all of you who followed along for the ride, cooked some of the recipes or gave me inspiration.  I hope you are enjoying this!

I wanted to have a fruity drink to cap off the week and peaches are in season right now, so why the heck not! I was super excited to try this as I am getting into bourbon, finally.  It has definitely been an acquired taste for me.  I have seen it in so many recipes so really wanted to give it a shot.  I thought it would be interesting to pair it with peach as well.  A great patio or backyard drink after a hot summers day!

At First Glance

This recipe has 6 ingredients, which is awesome! However, I hope that a drink doesn’t have too many ingredients.  These ingredients are very easy to find.  Keep in mind, peaches are best in season.  I think you could swap this though for another fruit as you see fit (similar to the Tapioca Pudding from yesterday).   The cost on this recipe is average, bourbon and peaches can be on the pricier side depending on time of year, and quality.  However, you could easily make this drink without the alcohol.

The Taste Test

Hmm… not sure what I think of the taste on this one.  I used the leftover peach pulp from the tapioca pudding, so this may be why.  I wasn’t a fan of the chunks of peach in it, and would have preferred just the juice.  I also found it really citrus heavy with the lemon, and would have liked it without.  It was hard to drink through as well with the various ‘pieces’ as well as colour.  I didn’t find it very satiating.  I also found it not to last very long before the colour to turn an even more sad shade of brown.  Can you tell this recipe wasn’t my favourite?

Final Verdict

Would I make this recipe again? Probably not.  Like I said, I was not a fan of the overall taste, longevity or ingredients in the recipe.  I did like the cost and the directions itself were easy to follow.  Next time however, I would have just used peach juice.  Have you tried this one?  What did you think? I gave it an overall rating of 60%.
