My New Roots 21 Day Challenge – The Details and Pantry List

I am gearing up for another challenge, starting next Sunday May 17th, the My New Roots 21 Day Challenge!! I met the creator of the blog, Sarah Britton, a month ago on her wonderful book tour in Vancouver (I wrote a bit about it, here).  I am so excited to start a new challenge, I have been feeling a bit down since the Oh She Glows one ended. I tried doing a weekend detox from Deliciously Ella, which I will update you on shortly, which to be honest didn’t work out so well.  I am really excited to start something new, that will get me trying tons of recipes in her new cookbook!

I’ve heard some feedback from the last challenge, which I am going to take with me to the new one.  First of all, I heard that although it was great for you to follow along, you prefer trying one or two of the recipes, not ALL of them as it is a lot of work.  I agree with you, it totally is! I still however want to go full force and try as many recipes as I can, so that you can mix and match which ones you like to make.  I will still be blogging each week with the list of recipes I am going to make, and still will review all the recipes.  However, to make it more user friendly, I will include one or two sample meal plans and grocery lists that incorporate some of the recipes with other ingredients for quick meals.

Another fun new addition that I am going to do this time around, is add a ‘prep-list’ each Saturday, which will help you to plan for the week ahead (if you choose to do the meal plan).  I have found that with MNR and with other great vegan/plant-based blogs, they often make things from scratch, such as soaking beans or grains, making granola or breads, yogurts, kefir cheese etc.  I am going to dedicate each week of this challenge to one of Sarah’s more ‘science experiment’ recipes.  She has guidelines to sprout your own beans, ginger ale (see cookbook), kimchi, ricotta, to name a few… so I will be trying some and posting about how easy/difficult it is 🙂

Lastly, I am going to do the reviews like I have done them with the Oh She Glows Challenge, but am changing the criteria and format slightly. I am still working this out but you will see the new format on the first week (and please let me know what you think!).

I think this will be a great challenge as the My New Roots cookbook JUST came out! (check it out here) I’m going to do a 50/50 split of recipes from the website and from the cookbook, so everyone can follow along.  Sarah is great at choosing seasonal local produce, so I am going to stick to her spring/early summer chapters of the cookbook.  However, there will be plenty of opportunities for you to provide me input on recipes to try, so I am open to venture elsewhere in the cookbook.

So… are you ready for this?! 21 Days, with 2 breakfasts, 4 meals (4 servings each), 2 snacks and 1 dessert each week!  I will be counting down on Instagram and hosting a few contests throughout, so stay tuned!
