It is day 6 of the One Part Plant Challenge, which means week 2 starts soon! At the end of this post, I will be sharing the Week 2 E-guide to the challenge. This includes a menu plan, nutritional content, grocery list and prep day ideas to 7 recipes in the One Part Plant cookbook. This will allow you to eat one plant based meal a day! The OPP Manifesto. I also want to review the Go To Spaghetti Marinara, found on page 152.
I was inspired to make this recipe as Jessica states: it is very difficult to find a spaghetti sauce at the store without added sugar or additives. Plus, I’m a big fan of making things in bulk. I invested in a deep freeze recently. If you have the space for it, I highly recommend it. It can cut your food bills in half. It allows you to purchase produce, legumes and other food items in large quantities and freeze. I currently have mine packed with spinach, berries, beans, spices and meats (for the man). I was excited to add the Go To Spaghetti Marinara to the batch.
Go To Spaghetti Marinara At First Glance
Only a few ingredients make this sauce – I was shocked. After seeing all the additives in a typical pasta sauce it left me wondering, why? It was very easy to prepare too and the steps were straight forward. I had only diced tomatoes in my cupboard, so I put a can in the blender to make it crushed. It seemed to do the trick! Pictured below as well is Gourmet Garden’s Basil in a tube. It is brilliant for when you want a bit of herbs but not all at once. These tubes last a few months!
The Taste Test
The taste of this sauce was great, not overly powering. I could see that it really was a basic sauce. You could add other spices and herbs to change the flavor. I found it a little on the acidic side and next time would have added something to sweeten it slightly. The Go To Spaghetti Marinara Sauce isn’t filling or rich in protein, so I would add some legumes to make it a bit more hearty.
The Final Verdict
Another great recipe, I rated this one at 83%. It really is great to make ahead as it freezes well. You could easily double or triple the batch.
Well that is it for the review, now let’s take a look at what we have for next week of the challenge! I’m excited to try these recipes with you!
